NACUW has always been at the forefront of new innovations in the credit union movement.

We have good links to academic and research bodies.

Since 2004 we have been working in close partnership with University of Salford and with the New Economics Foundation on financial inclusion approaches. See for example Community Banking Partnership.

Work that we have undertaken includes:

• Local economic impact assessments – what are the potential economic benefits a credit union might deliver to your region. Using multiplier tools to assess the potential leverage a grant or investment might have.

• Financial inclusion – assessing the scale of exclusion and identifying strategic solutions. See Financial Inclusion.

• Project evaluation and monitoring

• Market research – assessing local demand, designing marketing strategies and promotional campaigns. See case study.

• Feasibility Studies – into all aspects of credit union development.

• New products – using the credit path model to increase market share.

• Transaction analysis – pricing and assessing the profitability of credit union products.

Research studies – we have led research teams to USA and Ireland to explore new approaches towards credit union operation in the UK.
