Money Advice and Budgeting

Many credit unions are now working in partnership with their local money and debt advice services. But some are doing so much more successfully than others. What makes for a constructive partnership? And should you consider an in-house rather than an outsourced service? How can you set up the best service for you members, one that minimises the workload on your staff and volunteers, and which brings in new business for you?

We will be hearing from credit unions that are getting it right, and no doubt from others that are experiencing common difficulties with their money advice service.

This session will explore the best ways to make such a relationship work to the benefit of your members. It will provide you with the knowledge you need when considering how to establish a successful service.

You will learn how to:

  • Design the optimum advisory service for your credit union.

  • Negotiate service level agreements with a money advice partner.

  • Lever in additional income through a money advice service.

  • Set up referral protocols and assess potential risks.

  • Integrate energy advice to address fuel poverty.

  • Examples of innovative practice currently being delivered in England and Wales

  • Sources of funding for your service.
